Special Olympics European Football Cup 2008

The Special Olympics European Football Cup 2008 was held in communities in Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany from 2 to 8 May 2008. This 11-a-side tournament was the largest Special Olympics regional football event in year 2008.

The event was organized by Special Olympics Austria and Special Olympics Switzerland in cooperation with Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia and in partnership with Special Olympics Liechtenstein and Special Olympics Germany. Twenty four teams from across Europe and Eurasia were qualified at national level to compete in the Cup. Opening Ceremonies was held on May 3 in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Teams were competed in St. Gallen and Wil (Switzerland), Bregenz, Schwarzenberg, Bludenz (Austria), Vaduz (Liechtenstein) and Lindau (Germany). Finals toke place in these cities on 7 May. Closing Ceremonies was held on 7 May in St. Gallen.


The Special Olympics European Football Cup has had tremendous support from local football clubs, government, social organizations and sponsors while many schools have started fan clubs. All of their enthusiasm, interest and action was to ensure that Special Olympics footballers were experience the best playing conditions while enjoying the hospitality of communities situated in the picturesque setting around Lake Constance.
